Hamden Library to Celebrate Black History Month

The Hamden Library will celebrate Black History Month with a musical story presentation featuring the book 'The Blues of Flats Brown.'

From the Hamden Public Library: The Hamden Miller Library, 2901 Dixwell Ave. will celebrate Black History Month with a special musical story presentation featuring the book “The Blues of Flats Brown” by Walter Dean Myers. Local musician Peter Menta, the founder of Washboard Slim and the Blue Lights will be the presenter.

The book tells the story of Flats, a junkyard dog who runs away from an abusive master to make a name for himself from Mississippi to New York playing blues on his guitar. The kids will get to sing along and try out some homemade instruments.

Peter Menta is a veteran of thirty years as a musician playing drums, harmonica, guitar and vocals. He has appeared at folk festivals around the area.The program is recommended for ages six and up. There is no admission charge.
