Hamden Makes Decision On School For Wednesday

The town travel ban has expired and officials update on operations during the cleanup from Tuesday's storm.

HAMDEN, CT — With lots of snow to clean up around town from Tuesday’s storm, Hamden Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, March 15, school officials announced. District and school offices will open at 10 a.m.

Also, Mayor Curt Balzano Leng lifted the town’s travel ban earlier today in concurrence with the expiration of the state travel ban.

Town officials say road conditions remain dangerous and are encouraging residents to remain off the roadways.

The Police, Fire, Public Works and Parks Departments will remain working throughout the night to clear road obstructions and respond to emergency situations. Hamden Public Works crews will be focusing on ensuring that main and side streets are properly plowed, salted, and sanded in an effort to make Hamden’s morning commute as safe as possible.

Potential for refreezing does exist, and travelers are encouraged to exercise extreme caution.

Mayor Leng also wishes to remind residents that the Town Parking Ban is still in effect.

Furthermore, trash and recycling pick-up will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week and the Hamden Transfer Station will be closed on Wednesday, March 15th.

All Town Offices will re-open on Wednesday, March 15th.

The Hamden Fire and Police Departments would like to remind all residents and guests that warming centers are available at all Town Fire Stations and the Police Station Headquarters. Additionally, all non-essential Town Offices (Gov’t Center, Keefe Center, Libraries) will operate as warming centers during regular business hours of 8:30-4:30pm.

Please remember that the Fire Department can always use your assistance clearing hydrants of snow.
