Hamden Man Accused of Burglarizing Apex Pharmacy on Dixwell Avenue

Joseph Magoveny-Morbidelli, 27, was arrested early Tuesday morning.

A Hamden man was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly breaking into the Apex Pharmacy on Dixwell Avenue and stealing a “large quantity” of pills, cough syrup and medical supplies, according to a police press release.

Joseph Magoveny-Morbidelli, 27, of 585 Paradise Avenue in Hamden, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny, possession of narcotics and illegal possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school.

Police responded to the Apex Pharmacy at about 2 a.m. Tuesday morning on the report of a burglar alarm.

Upon arrival, officers observed that the front slider glass door was shattered and officers immediately searched the premises for the individual responsible, according to police. The individual had apparently left the scene moments before.

Police said investigation revealed that the individual proceeded directly to a drug cabinet and removed several types of narcotics, including cough syrup. Medical supplies were also stolen.

Shortly thereafter, Officer Justin Martin observed an individual walking on Skiff Street Extension, in the vicinity of Shepard Glen School.

Further investigation revealed that the individual, who was identified as Magoveny-Morbidelli, was in the possession of a large quantity of pills, cough syrup and medical supplies, according to police.

He was promptly arrested and transported to police headquarters.

Magoveny-Morbidelli was detained on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 25.
