Hamden Man Misappropriated $206K Of Victim's Money: Milford PD
Police are trying to determine if anyone else lost money in the embezzlement scheme.

MILFORD, CT — Milford Police announced an arrest in an embezzlement case where the victim had $206,000 worth of funds misappropriated, police said Tuesday.
In October of 2018, a complaint was made to the Milford Police Department that Travis Smith, 40, of Smith Drive, Hamden had solicited a Milford resident to act as an investment agent for the victim between 2014- 2018, police said in a news release.
The victim stated Smith took over $206,000 of the victim’s retirement fund money promising to yield a better return on his investment, police said. Smith eventually ceased contact with the victim and it was learned the money was misappropriated and the victim could no longer access their money, police said.

Through the investigation which included several warrants for records, an arrest warrant was
issued for Smith for the below charges, police said.
Smith is charged with:
Larceny 1st
Larceny 2nd
Forgery 2nd
Telephone Fraud 1st

Smith was released on a $50,000 bond to appear in Milford Court on April 9, 2019.
