HAMDEN, CT — Hamden’s Sam Mitchell gets breakfast with his girlfriend every morning before heading to work but one morning turned out to be particularly special when he realized he won $50,000 on a “Super Cashword 18” lottery game.
Mitchell was ecstatic when he realized he had won, “I was jumping up and down—at first I thought it was $5,000, then I yelled ‘No it’s $50,000!,’” according to a press release.
The whole restaurant cheered for the big winner as he celebrated. To confirm his winnings, Mitchell used the nearest Ticket Checker.

As a hard-working tow truck driver, Mitchell had to wait to claim his ticket.
“I had to take a half day (to drive to the CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill). I kept the ticket on me at all times—I even locked it in my truck at work,” Mitchell told Lottery officials with a laugh.

“I’m going to keep working but put a little away—and buy my girlfriend a ring,” Mitchell said.
When asked about the significance of the ring, Mitchell smiled and said, “She already has one of those (engagement ring), I just want to buy her something better.”
For selling the winning ticket, Galaxy Fuel located on 180 New Haven Avenue in Milford will receive a $500 check from the CT Lottery.
The overall odds of winning a Super Cashword 18 prize is 1 in 3.74. Of the 21 top prizes, 10 remain to be claimed.
