Hamden Mom Charged with Leaving Three Kids, Including a 20-Day-Old Baby, Alone in Car While She Shopped
North Haven police said the car was found unlocked and not running with the three unsupervised children in it.

A Hamden woman was charged with leaving her three children — ages 10, 8 and 20 days old — alone in a car while she shopped Tuesday evening in North Haven.
Taccara Durrett, 33, was arrested after a North Haven police officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle parked in a Universal Drive parking lot with three unsupervised children inside it around 5 p.m.
An investigation revealed the children, ages 10, 8, and 20-days old, were left unsupervised while the mother went into a store.

Police said the vehicle was found unlocked and not running. At the time of the investigation the temperature outside was 18 degrees, with a “feels like” wind-chill value of 8 degrees, according to police.
North Haven police said Durrett was arrested and charged with leaving a child under 12 unsupervised.
