Hamden Native Plays Final Game Of Record-Setting NHL Career
Jonathan Quick, a 3-time Stanley Cup champion, retires as the winningest American-born goaltender in NHL history.
HAMDEN, CT — Hamden native Jonathan Quick closed out his nearly 20-year NHL career in the New York Rangers' 3-2 loss to the Florida Panthers on Monday night.
Quick announced Monday morning that the game at Amerant Bank Arena in Florida would be the final game of his career.
Quick, 40, finished the game with 14 saves and retires as the winningest American-born goaltender in NHL history. He became the first American-born goalie to reach 400 career victories in February 2025.

"I wished I'd had a couple more saves for them,” Quick told reporters after the game, according to ESPN. “... But it was still special, to see the way these guys played. It's an honor to play my last game with this group here."
Quick helped lead the Los Angeles Kings to two Stanley Cup championships in 2012 and 2014, and won another cup with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023.

“In a career that spanned close to two decades in the National Hockey League, Jonathan Quick became not just the winningest American-born goaltender of all time, but also one of the best goaltenders in hockey history,” Rangers general manager Chris Drury, a Trumbull native, said in a statement posted on X on Monday. “A three-time Stanley Cup Champion, he earned the utmost respect of teammates, coaches, and staff members through his work ethic and dedication to his craft. Jonathan is a special person and player, and the entire Rangers organization wishes him – along with his wife Jackie and three children, Madison, Carter, and Cash – all the best in retirement.”
