Hamden Picks Location For Potential First Animal Shelter
Officials announced this week the location for the town's potential first animal shelter.
HAMDEN, CT — Hamden officials have selected a 12-acre plot of land at 490 Main Street as the site for the town’s potential first animal shelter, according to FOX 61.
FOX 61 reports the land is owned by the town, but Mayor Lauren Garrett said a lot of work needs to be done, and public input is needed before everything is finalized.
Hamden has around $200,000 for a site plan development and the initial design phase, according to the New Haven Register.

Garrett told the Register that the initial design and site development phase would take about six to eight months, and the construction timeline would be determined after that.
Hamden had worked on sharing a shelter with New Haven, but Garrett told FOX 61 the municipalities couldn’t come to an agreement on staffing.
