Hamden Police Arrest Suspect in Armed Robbery of Walgreen's

Derrell Soulds, 38, of New Haven, was arrested on a warrant.

Hamden police have arrested the suspect in the Sept. 26 armed robbery of the Walgreen’s on Dixwell Avenue.

Derrell Soulds, 38, of 690 Howard Avenue in New Haven, was arrested on a warrant Tuesday.

An individual approached a clerk at the store, located at 1191 Dixwell Avenue, and asked for a carton of cigarettes. He subsequently showed the clerk a note that stated, “Give me all the money or I’ll shoot you,” Hamden Police Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release.

He then lifted his shirt and displayed what appeared to be a handgun that was tucked into his pants. The subject then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

Detective Brian Stewart conducted an extensive investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Soulds.

Soulds was charged Tuesday with first-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny. He was arraigned later in the day.
