Hamden Police Captain Takes New Position In Woodbridge

HAMDEN, CT—A longtime Hamden Police Department employee is retiring from the force to take a new position.

Captain Ronald Smith told Patch he begins a new chapter in his career as assistant police chief for the town of Woodbridge on Wednesday, August 18. His last day in Hamden is Tuesday.

Smith has been with Hamden Police for 39 years and has served the community in a variety of roles. He began as a patrol officer and has worked in the traffic division, undercover narcotics, internal affairs, and as a detective.

Smith has been the public information officer for Hamden Police since 2006 and began working in animal control that same year. Since 2014, he has also been the commanding officer in the department's Professional Standards Bureau.
