Hamden Police Charge Man in Connection with Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident

Hamden police have charged a New Haven man for his involvement in a fatal hit and run accident last October.

Akinei Burruss, 38, was arrested and charged with felony evading responsibility.

Doris Gonzalez, 67, died while crossing Dixwell Avenue, in the vicinity of Haig Street, on Oct. 30, 2014. The motor vehicle that struck her, which was operated by Burruss, fled from the accident scene, Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release.

Officer Stephen DeGrand conducted an extensive investigation which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Burruss. The court signed the arrest warrant application.

Burruss, of 38 Foote Street in New Haven, was scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on June 9.
