UPDATE: More Arrests Possible in Hamden Murder Case

Police have arrested a suspect in the death of a 45-year-old woman, whose body was found inside of her burning home in December.

Hamden Police have charged Benjamin Carpenter, 26, with murder in connection to the Dec. 26 death of Jennifer Antonier, 45, whose body was found inside of her burning home.

During a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Police Chief Thomas Wydra said that Carpenter knew Antonier but wouldn’t divulge at this point what their relationship was, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reports Wydra also said that more arrests are possible in the case and that the investigation is ongoing and active.

The Hamden Police and Fire departments responded to 28 Lilac Avenue on the report of a structure fire at about 1:20 a.m. on Dec. 26.

Shortly thereafter, Hamden Fire Department personnel located Antonier, who was deceased, lying on the second floor, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. She was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, which concluded that her death was a homicide.

The Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Division conducted an extensive investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Carpenter. Lead Detective Brian Stewart submitted the arrest warrant application that was approved by the court.

On Feb. 10, Hamden Police, with the assistance of several United States Marshal Service Task Force members, arrested Carpenter in New Haven.

Carpenter, of 15 Ralston Avenue, Hamden, was charged with murder, first-degree arson, tampering with evidence and conspiracy charges.

Carpenter, who was detained at police headquarters on a court-ordered $1 million bond, was transported to Meriden Superior Court on Thursday morning.

The Hamden Police Department would like to thank the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Marshal Service, Connecticut State Police, New Haven Police Department and the Hamden Fire Department for their collective assistance during this investigation.

Hamden Police have announced the arrest of Benjamin Carpenter in connection to the Dec. 26 murder of Jennifer Antonier.

Antonier, 45, was found dead inside of her burning home on Lilac Avenue around 2 a.m. on Dec. 26.

Hamden Police have scheduled a 12 noon press conference to discuss the arrest.
