
The Hamden Little League team powered its way to a 17-3 victory over Branford to claim the District IV title Saturday in New Haven.
Danny Alissi and John D’Errico both hit grand slams while Alex Ponzio blasted a two-run home run in the game, which was stopped after four innings by the mercy rule.
“We came today with our hitting shoes on,” Hamden coach Tim Belcher told Henry Chisholm of GameTimeCT after the victory. “I tell the kids, ‘the home runs will come if you hit the ball hard.’”

Hamden will play again in the sectional tournament, which begins July 22 in Darien.
