HAMDEN, CT — A Catholic priest at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Hamden has been reassigned to “non-parish duties” amid a pending lawsuit over sexual misconduct allegations at a Torrington church nearly three years ago, according to multiple reports, including the New Haven Register.

The Hartford Courant reported a woman has filed a lawsuit against the Rev. Mauricio Galvis, the Archdiocese of Hartford, and other church officials, over the alleged misconduct at St. John Paul the Great Roman Catholic Parish in Torrington on Sept. 22, 2020.

Galvis is accused of exposing himself to the woman during the incident, according to the Courant.

The Register reported that the woman was a parishioner and member of a church committee.

The lawsuit claims that the plaintiff continues to suffer from physical injuries and emotional distress, according to WTNH News 8.
