Hamden Resident Wins 2nd Straight GNAC Player Of The Week Award

The Hamden High School graduate is a senior on the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team.

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden’s Justice Washington, a senior forward on the Albertus Magnus College men’s basketball team, has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for the second straight week, officials announced Monday.

Washington, a Hamden High School graduate, helped lead the Falcons to a 3-0 mark in GNAC play last week.

Washington averaged 12 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.3 blocks with a pair of double-doubles for Albertus in a 3-0 week. He shot 60.9 percent (14-for-23) overall from the floor and 72.7 percent (8-for-11) from the free-throw line while playing just 25 minutes per contest.

The reigning GNAC Player of the Week opened the week with a near triple-double, registering 14 points, 12 rebounds, and eight blocks against Colby-Sawyer College before tallying 10 points, 10 boards, and five more blocks against Regis (Mass.) College. He closed the week with 12 points and nine rebounds at Anna Maria College, helping the Falcons secure three-straight 25-plus point wins in GNAC play.

Washington's stats this season rank well nationally, as he sits fourth in all of Division III in blocks per game (3.27) and 14th in total blocks (36). He also paces the GNAC with a 70-percent field-goal percentage.

The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team returns to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 11, for a 7:30 p.m. home clash against No. 1 nationally-ranked University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) located inside "The Nest."
