Hamden’s Fanolis Lifts SCSU Field Hockey Team to First Win

Hamden residents Zoe Fanolis and Brianna Craft helped lead the Owls past Franklin Pierce for their first win of the season.

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden’s Zoe Fanolis, a senior on the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team, scored the game-winning goal off a penalty corner with 2 minutes, 27 seconds remaining as the Owls earned their first win of the season, 2-1 over Franklin Pierce, on Wednesday evening.

TEAM RECORDS: SCSU - 1-2: Franklin Pierce, 2-1

THE GAME-WINNER: Alicia Morgan (Stafford, Conn.) fed Bailey McGinnis (North Branford, Conn.) to start the eventual game-winning sequence. McGinnis then slipped a pass to Fanolis on the left, who lofted a shot into the top of the cage for her second goal of the year.

THE IGNITOR: Emma Perry (East Lyme, Conn.) netted her first collegiate goal at the 5:34 mark of the second half, knocking in a rebound to knot the score at 1-1. The Ravens had led since the8:25 mark of the game on a Kenady Kelly tally.

STANDING TALL: Owls' goalie Brianna Craft (Hamden, Conn.) made nine saves in the game and kept the Ravens off the scoreboard for the final 61:35 of the game.
