Hamden Schools Eliminating 28 Positions, Cutting Middle School Sports: Report

The school district is eliminating nearly 30 positions and disbanding middle school sports due to a budget shortfall, according to a report.

HAMDEN, CT — As part of $3.3 million in budget cuts, the Hamden Public Schools district will disband organized sports at the middle school and eliminate 28 positions district-wide for the 2024-25 school year, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reports 18 full-time positions will be eliminated, resulting in layoffs for seven employees, including an administrator and a social studies teacher at Hamden High School.

The school district faced a budget shortfall of around $3 million after receiving $2.75 million less than it requested from the town and Legislative Council, according to the Register.
