Hamden Shooting Victim was Attacked by Man who Knocked on His Door
Police continue investigation of dispute, shooting that claimed the life of Larry Dildy, 56.

Larry Dildy, the 56-year-old Hamden man who was shot and later died at the hospital following a dispute at his Circular Avenue home, was attacked by a man who knocked on his door and then got into an argument with him, according to the New Haven Register.
The Register reports that while Dildy, who was also possibly stabbed during the altercation, and the man were fighting, a family member came to Dildy’s aid and struck the attacker with a broomstick and he ran out of the back of the house.
Hamden police, which held a Monday morning press conference on the homicide, didn’t release any information about the argument or the identity of the relative who intervened in the dispute. Police did say that at this point it didn’t appear to be a random attack and it isn’t known yet if the suspect was invited into or forced his way into the home, according to the Register.

Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Sunday and Dildy died about three hours later at Yale-New Haven Hospital while in surgery, according to the Register.
Hamden Police Chief Thomas Wydra said the incident is not related to the recent string of home invasions that have occurred in town and also said that police have a suspect in those cases and are working on securing an arrest warrant.
