Hamden Teen Charged In Stolen Car Crash In Massachusetts: Police
The 17-year-old girl was in a car that was reported stolen out of New Haven and crashed during a police chase in Massachusetts.
HAMDEN, CT — A 17-year-old Hamden resident was arrested early Tuesday morning after the stolen vehicle she was riding in crashed during a police chase in Massachusetts, according to officials.
East Longmeadow Police received a 911 call around 2:40 a.m. from a resident on Deer Run Terrace reporting their car alarm was going off and they could see someone looking into their vehicle, according to officials.
A responding officer saw two vehicles at the end of the street with Connecticut registrations. The officer saw two people in each vehicle and they were all wearing ski masks over their faces, police said.

Police said one of the fleeing vehicles was reported stolen out of New Haven, while officers were unable to see the registration on the other vehicle.

“The suspects continued to flee, traveling from Pease Road to Shaker Road and then to Chestnut Street,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “Officers lost sight of one of the vehicles, but continued to pursue the stolen vehicle as it traveled through numerous residential side streets off of Somers Road. At times the suspect vehicle came close to hitting cruisers as it kept trying to flee the area but was turning down dead end streets. The vehicle ended up losing control on Glen Heather Lane and crashing into the woodline. Officers observed the operator run away from the crashed vehicle and called for a police K-9 to assist. A passenger who remained with the vehicle was checked for injuries and then placed under arrest by East Longmeadow officers.
“A K-9 Officer from Springfield PD arrived on scene to assist with the search for the operator of the stolen vehicle. During the area search, officers found numerous other vehicles in the area of Brynmawr Drive and Scantic Drive with their interior dome lights on, indicative of the suspect likely trying to find another vehicle with its keys left inside so they could steal it. The track and search continued down into Somers, CT, but officers were unable to locate the other suspect.”
The passenger in the crashed stolen vehicle was identified as a 17-year-old girl from Hamden, according to police. She was arrested and charged with receiving a stolen vehicle. She was booked and taken to the Department of Youth Services facility in Springfield after her mother declined to come take custody of her, police said.
