Hamden Woman, 67, Dies in Hit-and-Run Accident on Dixwell Avenue (Updated)
Doris Gonzalez was crossing the street with her husband Emilio Gonzalez, 67, when they were struck by a car that fled the scene.

A 67-year-old Hamden woman died Thursday night after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run accident while she was crossing Dixwell Avenue in the vicinity of Haig Street.
Hamden police said that Emilio Gonzalez, 67, and his wife Doris Gonzalez, 67, were on their way home when they were struck by a motor vehicle around 8 p.m.
Police said Doris Gonzalez suffered life-threatening injuries at the scene and was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Emilio Gonzalez was also transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, according to police.

Police said that the Gonzalez’s were near the southbound shoulder of Dixwell Avenue when the accident occurred, walking to their Hillcrest Avenue home.
The vehicle that struck the Gonzalez’s fled southbound on Dixwell Avenue, according to police. The vehicle is described as a dark-colored Saturn and it should have damage to the front right windshield and front right hood.

Emilio Gonzalez and Doris Gonzalez recently celebrated their 46th anniversary and first met when they were 16 years old, according to WTNH.com.
Their daughter Magali Gonzalez told WTNH that her father is devastated: “That was his soul-mate. That was his everything. He’s been with her all his life.”
