Investigation revealed that Bessette and his girlfriend, Anjileik Otey, 30, were involved in a domestic dispute, Police Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release.

Smith said the verbal confrontation turned physical when Otey stabbed Bessette twice in the lower back area. He subsequently asked Otey to contact “911”, to which she refused.

Bessette eventually left the residence and drove to a family member’s home. He was then transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Smith said the couple’s young child witnessed a portion of the incident.

Officers proceeded to the Broadway Street residence and continued the investigation.

Shortly thereafter, Otey was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

Otey, of 393 Broadway Street in Hamden, was charged with first-degree assault, disorderly conduct and risk of injury to a minor. She was detained on a $150,000 bond. Otey was scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Friday.

Detective William Onofrio conducted the investigation.
