Hamden Woman Stabs Boyfriend with Butcher Knife: Police

The woman was arrested after a verbal altercation turned physical late Sunday night.

A Hamden woman was charged with stabbing her boyfriend with a butcher knife during a dispute late Sunday night.

Hamden Police responded to a Town Walk Drive residence on the report of a stabbing at about 11:55 p.m. on Nov. 1, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Central Communications had received a call from a woman who said that she had stabbed her boyfriend.

Smith said investigation revealed that Melissa Ptak and her boyfriend were involved in a verbal altercation, which turned physical.

Ptak allegedly stabbed her boyfriend twice in the back with a butcher knife. She was promptly taken into custody.

The boyfriend was immediately transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment.

Ptak, 43, of 1313 Town Walk Drive, was arrested on charges of first-degree assault and disorderly conduct.

Ptak, who was detained on a $50,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Monday.
