Hearing Set On Proposed Farmington Canal Heritage Trail Improvements

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden and New Haven will hold a joint public meeting this week on proposed improvements to the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail.

The two municipalities are planning pedestrian and cyclist safety improvements, including the installation of raised crosswalks along the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail.

A public meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 13 via Zoom. The meeting will be jointly held between the City of New Haven and Town of Hamden as the project spans both Hamden and New Haven. Public comment will be accepted at that time.

Residents, business owners, commuters and other interested individuals are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to discuss the design phase of this project. This project is made possible by funding from the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (project# 61-154). This project is funded through the Transportation Alternatives Program.

Town of Hamden:

The Town of Hamden is proposing to install raised crosswalks at five locations in response to requests from residents to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety along the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail.

The project area includes the following streets that intersect the canal trail: Goodrich Street, Alling Street, Dudley Street, Morse Street and Hamden Park Drive.

City of New Haven:

The City of New Haven is proposing to install raised crosswalks at seven (7) locations to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists at grade crossings along the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail.

The project area in New Haven includes the following streets that intersect the trail: Munson Street, Division Street, Thompson Street, Shelton Avenue, Ivy Street, Brewster Street, and Bassett Street.
