Heavy Lifting: Men Charged with Stealing Weights in Hamden

Police found two men pushing two stolen "Town of Hamden" 90-gallon garbage cans with stolen weights inside of them.

Hamden police have charged two men with stealing weights from a gym after the duo was found pushing two stolen “Town of Hamden” 90-gallon garbage cans on Edwards Street.

Police responded to the area of Morse Street and Edwards Street at about 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 8 on the report of a suspicious person, Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release.

Responding officers were advised that two individuals were in the possession of stolen garbage cans.

Upon arrival, officers observed the individuals running on Edwards Street, pushing two “Town of Hamden” 90 gallon garbage cans. Officers detained the individuals, who were identified as Jabraun Hines and Wayne Dohna, and further ascertained that the garbage cans contained weights from a gym, according to Smith.

Officers determined that moments earlier, Hines and Dohna, forcibly entered 550 Newhall Street (the old Hamden Middle School), and stole the weights. They were subsequently arrested and transported to police headquarters.

Hamden Police arrested Jabraun Hines, 19, of 1476 Chapel Street, Apartment B, New Haven and Wayne Dohna, 21, of 850 Newhall Street, Hamden. They were both charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny.

Hines and Dohna were released on a written promise to appear. They are scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on June 16.
