Historic Hamden Home Demolished

Quinnipiac University has demolished the fourth, and what it says the final, of the historic homes it owns on Whitney Avenue.

HAMDEN, CT — Quinnipiac University has demolished the fourth of six historic homes it owns on Whitney Avenue and says it has no plans to take down the other two, according to the New Haven Register.

However, town historic preservation officials who have fought to save the homes told Kate Ramunni of the Register that Quinnipiac said the same thing about the Ezra Dickerman House, which was torn down on Tuesday, so they aren’t optimistic.

The Colonial house was built in 1770 at 3217 Whitney Avenue and was owned by Ezra Dickerman. The two remaining historic homes are the Orin Todd House at 3367 Whitney Avenue and the Toll House next door, according to the Register.
