HAMDEN, CT — A threat that was determined to be a swatting incident led to a police response at Hamden Middle School and Walmart on Wednesday, according to police.
Police received reports on June 10 of an anonymous threat claiming there were active shooters and explosive devices at Hamden Middle School and the Walmart in Hamden, according to Det. Hailey Zarzuela.
The threat was later determined to be a “swatting incident and a deliberate hoax,” according to Zarzuela.

Zarzuela said Hamden police officers, detectives, and members of the New Haven Bomb Squad immediately responded to both locations.
“Emergency personnel conducted thorough searches and safety assessments to ensure the protection of students, staff, shoppers, and the broader community,” Zarzuela wrote in a news release. “Following a comprehensive investigation and coordinated response, authorities determined that there was no credible threat to either location. The incident has been resolved, and normal operations have resumed.

“The Hamden Police Department commends the swift and professional actions of all responding personnel and partner agencies whose coordinated efforts helped ensure public safety throughout the incident. While this call was ultimately determined to be a hoax, every report involving potential violence or explosives is treated with the utmost seriousness and receives a full law enforcement response.
“The Hamden Police Department reminds the public that false emergency reports carry significant legal consequences and will be thoroughly investigated. The safety of our students, residents, and visitors remains our highest priority. The Hamden Police Department thanks the community for its cooperation and patience during this incident.”
(Original post) HAMDEN, CT — Police are investigating an incident at Hamden Middle School on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.
“The Hamden Police Department is aware of an incident that occurred at the Hamden Middle School and is actively investigating the matter,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Law enforcement officers and emergency personnel responded promptly and are continuing to assess the situation.
“Public safety remains our top priority. The incident remains under investigation, and information is still being confirmed.
“Additional details will be released as they become available and when it is appropriate to do so. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation.”
