You walk up to a standard clear door exterior look that fits the décor of the area, but upon opening the door you are transcended out of this country.

 at 2547 Whitney Ave. has traditional Mexican colors of red and green adorning the walls. The wooden booths, wood back chairs and tiled partitions gives a feel of Mexico.

Situated not far from beautiful scenic Quinnipiac University, the restaurant has a large student following.

In addition to the atmosphere, the menu will tantalize your taste buds. Starting off with one of Ixtapa’s specialty Margaritas will wake up your mouth. On a hot day, a tropical Margarita with strawberry or banana will quench your thirst, to mention a few. They can also be made without alcohol, and the restaurant has a variety of other beverages available, both alcoholic and non- alcoholic, with a full bar to choose from.

Start with an appetizer of Nacho Supreme or Taquito Bites for yourself or share an appetizer of a Fiesta Platter with the table. Choose a cool Chicken or Shrimp Caesar Salad or a bowl of Sopa de Albondigas before your main meal.

Choose from a variety of chicken, seafood or steak entrees. They also offer vegetarian dishes or burgers, and a sizable choice of tacos and fajitas are available. A main meal of Ixtapas Trio Amigos, a dish which includes steak, chicken and shrimp, will fill an empty stomach.
