Kitchen Fire Displaces 6 In Hamden: Officials
Crews extinguished an apartment fire Monday afternoon in Hamden.
HAMDEN, CT — Six people were displaced from their homes after a kitchen fire at an apartment complex Monday afternoon in Hamden, according to officials.
Crews responded to a report of a fire at Kaye Vue Drive around 12:50 p.m. Engine 2 arrived and reported smoke showing from one of the units of a multi-family townhouse apartment, according to Hamden Fire Marshal Brian Dolan.
“They were able to quickly extinguish a kitchen fire,” Dolan wrote in a news release. “Crews overhauled the kitchen area and ventilated smoke out of the apartment.”

Dolan said a resident had stepped away from a pot of oil on a stovetop.
“The resident returned to the kitchen and noticed flames spreading to the cabinets,” Dolan wrote. “He quickly exited the building and called 911.”

Dolan said the unit was declared uninhabitable by the building official, and the unit next door sustained smoke damage.
Six residents from two units were displaced and received assistance from Hamden Community Services and the American Red Cross, according to Dolan.
“The Hamden Fire Department would like to remind residents to never leave cooking unattended,” Dolan wrote.
