Letter Carrier Robbed At Gunpoint In Hamden: Police

A U.S. Postal Service letter carrier was robbed at gunpoint while he was delivering mail on his route, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A letter carrier was robbed at gunpoint Saturday afternoon in Hamden, according to police.

Police responded to the 200 block of Treadwell Street around 3:45 p.m. on July 15 on the report of an armed street robbery involving a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier, according to Acting Hamden Police Chief Timothy F. Wydra.

The victim told police that he was delivering mail on his route on Treadwell Street when a black Jeep SUV with heavy tinted windows parked behind his postal truck, according to Wydra.

A passenger in the Jeep got out and approached the letter carrier. The victim said the suspect displayed a gun and demanded his work keys, according to Wydra.

Wydra said the victim handed over his work keys to the suspect, who got back into the Jeep and fled onto Leeder Hill Drive.

The suspect was described as a black male, wearing a black ski mask/hat, a dark gray long-sleeved shirt, and black pants, according to Wydra.
