The town will have limited Saturday hours at the transfer station in November & December; crews continue storm cleanup, officials announced.

HAMDEN, CT — The town will have limited Saturday hours at the transfer station in November and December, officials recently announced.
While normally closed on Saturdays, the Public Works Department is offering Saturday hours at the transfer station on the following dates: Nov. 14, 21, and 28; Dec. 5, 12, and 19.
Crews continue to conduct special brush and tree limb cleanups in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaias and the tornado that touched down and passed through Hamden in late August, according to officials.

“Public Works crews remain committed to full-scale removal efforts throughout the Town and are managing an enormous amount of debris across neighborhoods in Hamden,” a news release from the Mayor’s Office states. “Public Works appreciates the patience and understanding of residents as the removal of storm debris is completed.
“Residents who have already had their brush piles collected should understand that any further bundles for disposal will be the responsibility of the home-owner and will not be collected by Public Works. The Department continues to operate on a ‘single-pass-through’ policy, and as such, residents should ensure their brush is curbside as quickly as possible, if not already.”

Public Works will only accept brush and tree limbs of “manageable size, stumps and tree trunks will not be accepted.” Grass and construction debris will also not be accepted.
The town’s annual fall leaf and brush pickup program will begin Nov. 2, and until that time, residents are asked to only place storm debris curbside.
Residents seeking an alternate disposal option can bring their debris to the Hamden Transfer Station, 231 Wintergreen Ave., Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
“As a reminder, the October Bulk Trash collection program has been eliminated from the FY2020-2021 Budget and will not occur this year,” officials wrote in the news release. “RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT PUT BULK TRASH ITEMS BY THE CURB. While normally closed, Public Works is offering Saturday hours at the Transfer Station on the following dates: November 14, 21, 28, December 5, 12, 19. Public Works is able to offer this service at no additional cost, as it will be captured in the already contractual Leaf Overtime expense.”
