Local 105 Year Old Attributes Age to Family and Friends

Monday, February 6, 2017 was a big day for Anita Marchitto Murphy. Anita, who has lived at Whitney Rehabilitation Care Center in Hamden for over almost four years, celebrated her 105th birthday! Anita was born in Hamden, CT on February 6, 1912. When asked about her fondest memories growing up, she said she enjoyed playing basketball as a teenager, dancing in competitions in her 20s, and working at Fro-Joy Ice Cream as a packer. She described herself as "quite a dancer", winning for the Charleston back in 1927 and winning a dress. Her most proud moments of her life include meeting the love of her life, Robert Murphy and getting married, settling down, and raising her family right here in Hamden, CT. She was always very involved in the community and she continues to be at Whitney Rehab, where she brightens the days of staff and other residents. She attributes her longevity to her loving family and wonderful friends. Here is to many more birthday celebrations with Anita in the years to come!
