Longtime Hamden Councilman Resigns Due To Health Issues

The Legislative Council will vote on a candidate to fill the seat.

HAMDEN, CT — Longtime Hamden Legislative Council member Michael Colaiacovo Jr. recently resigned due to health issues, according to the New Haven Register.

Colaiacovo, a Democrat who has represented the 7th District since 2005, cited his “declining health” in his resignation letter, saying it no longer allows him to fulfill his responsibilities to his constituents and the town, the Register reports.

The Democratic Town Committee will name a candidate to replace Colaiacovo later this month. A simple majority vote by the Legislative Council is required to seat a new member following a resignation.
