Man Accused Of Stalking, Found With Stolen Gun: Hamden Police

Police said a man accused of stalking was found to be in the possession of a loaded gun that was reported stolen out of Farmington.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man accused of stalking was found to be in the possession of a stolen gun Friday in Hamden, according to police.

Police responded to the area of Fitch Street and Arch Street on June 19 on the report of an unwanted person/stalking, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. Officer Justin Martin found the suspect, identified as Tywan Shuford, hiding inside a vehicle, Smith said.

Police found a backpack next to Shuford as he was taken into custody. A loaded .45 caliber handgun, which was reported stolen in Farmington in 2016, was found inside the backpack, according to Smith.

Shuford, 30, of Rock Creek Road in New Haven, was charged with second-degree stalking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft of a firearm and weapon in a motor vehicle.

Smith said Shuford was also arrested on three arrest warrants. He was additionally charged with two counts of second-degree strangulation, second-degree burglary, second-degree threatening, third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and two counts of breach of peace. He appeared in court on June 22.
