Man Arrested On Gun, Drug Charges After Traffic Stop: Hamden Police

The man was wanted on two outstanding arrest warrants, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man was arrested on gun and drug charges after a traffic stop Monday in Hamden, according to police.

Hamden Police Officers Rachel Zinni and Oscar Soler conducted a motor vehicle stop on Dixwell Avenue near George Street around 6:15 p.m. on July 25, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan.

Dolan said the registered owner and driver of the vehicle, Cody Mallard, was wanted on two outstanding arrest warrants.

During the course of the investigation, police seized two firearms and approximately 1 pound of marijuana from Mallard’s vehicle, according to Dolan.

Dolan said one of the guns seized by police was reported stolen in New Haven.

Mallard, 28, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, two counts of carrying a pistol without a permit, two counts of illegal possession of a weapon in a vehicle, theft of a firearm, and illegal possession of a cannabis substance.

Mallard was transferred to the custody of the Meriden Police Department for the outstanding arrest warrants, according to Dolan. He is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Aug. 22 for the Hamden charges.
