Man Assaulted Elderly Relative on New Year’s Day: Hamden Police

The man is accused of grabbing the victim by the hair, causing her to strike her head on a chair and resulting in trauma to her head: Police

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man is accused of assaulting an elderly relative during a verbal dispute that turned physical on New Year’s Day, according to police.

On Jan. 1, Hamden Police responded to a Washington Avenue address on the report of a domestic dispute involving an assault, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that Richard Nacca was involved in a verbal dispute with an elderly relative.

The dispute elevated into a physical altercation and Nacca is accused of grabbing the victim’s hair and causing her to strike her head on a chair, according to Smith.

Hamden Fire Rescue rendered medical assistance at the scene and it was determined that the victim suffered trauma to her head, Smith said.

Nacca left the residence prior to the arrival of Hamden Police.

Officer Andrew Lipford conducted the investigation which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Nacca.

Nacca was arrested on Jan. 23 at his Washington Avenue residence.

Nacca, 59, was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree assault of an elderly person, disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal mischief. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is due back in court on Feb. 7, according to state judicial records.
