Man Attempted To Use Counterfeit $100 Bills At Kohl’s: Hamden Police
The suspect was found to be in the possession of 10 counterfeit $100 bills, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A New York man is accused of attempting to use counterfeit $100 bills at Kohl’s, according to police. On Aug. 29, Hamden Police responded to Kohl’s Department Store, located at 2380 Dixwell Avenue, on the report of suspicious activity, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said officers were advised that an individual, described as a black male, wearing an orange-colored jumpsuit, was at the checkout counter and that he was possibly in the possession of “counterfeit bills.” (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
Loss Prevention officials advised police that this same person had earlier attempted to purchase merchandise at a local Kohl’s, using counterfeit currency, according to Smith.

Moments later, officers located James Oliver inside of the store. Oliver was found to be in the possession of 10 counterfeit $100 bills, according to Smith.
Additionally, officers found several “boxed” items inside of his motor vehicle, including tool boxes, lock boxes and faucets, Smith said.

Oliver, 38, of New York, New York, was arrested on charges of first-degree forgery and second-degree forgery.
Oliver, who was detained on a $100,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Sept. 12.
Officer Enrique Rivera-Rodriguez conducted the investigation.
