Man Charged with Bloody, Near Fatal Assault at Eli's in Hamden
Medics told Hamden police that the victim was minutes from death due to the massive amount of blood he lost in the assault.

HAMDEN — An Enfield man was charged with the bloody assault of his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend at Eli’s On Whitney over the summer that left the victim minutes from death due to a massive loss of blood, according to police.
Hamden Police responded to Eli’s, 2932 Whitney Avenue, on the report of an aggravated assault on June 6.
Investigation revealed that a 25-year-old Hamden resident and his 22-year-old girlfriend were inside of Eli’s when a fight broke out, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said the woman’s ex-boyfriend, Dillon Ryan, head-butted the 25-year-old and broke his nose.
Ryan then threw a heavy drink glass at the victim, striking him in the head, and the woman was struck by the shattered glass and was cut in the shoulder area, according to Smith.

The male victim, who was bleeding profusely from a massive head wound, was treated at the scene by Hamden Fire Rescue. He was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment.
Smith said the male victim, in addition to the broken nose, suffered a fractured skull and a concussion. Furthermore, a major artery in his head was severed.
Medical personnel advised an officer who accompanied the victim to the hospital that he was minutes from death due to the massive loss of blood, according to Smith.
Officer Nicholas D’Angelo submitted an arrest warrant application to the court for Ryan and it was approved.
Ryan, 24, turned himself into police custody on Oct. 29.
Ryan, of 2 Bridge Lane in Enfield, was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault and disorderly conduct.
Ryan, who was detained on a court-ordered $75,000 bond, was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Oct. 29.
