Man Charged With Burglarizing Bar In Hamden: Police

Police say the suspect, who was arrested after a lengthy investigation, threw a large rock to break into the bar.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man has been arrested following a lengthy investigation for allegedly breaking into the Highwood Bar and Grill and stealing several bottles of liquor last September. Hamden Police responded to the Highwood Bar and Grill, located at 903 Dixwell Avenue, on Sept. 6, 20016, on the report of a burglary, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that shortly after 5 a.m., Mark McEntyre used a “large rock” to break the front window of the establishment. Once inside, McEntyre stole two bottles of liquor and he returned about 40 minutes later and stole an additional three bottles of liquor, according to Smith.

Detective Scott Levenduski conducted an investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for McEntyre. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

McEntyre, 53, of Edwards Street in Hamden, was arrested Sept. 27 at Meriden Superior Court. He was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of sixth-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief.

McEntyre, who was detained on a court-ordered $10,000 bond, was arraigned later in the day.
