A man and his young son were struck by a hit-and-run driver while they were crossing the street in Hamden earlier this year, police said.
HAMDEN, CT — A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured a father and his young son while they were crossing the street over the summer in Hamden, according to police.
Richard Atterberry, 26, of Hamden, was arrested Thursday on a warrant in connection with the crash that happened on Dixwell Avenue on June 9.
Police responded to a report of a crash involving an evading vehicle around 8:30 a.m. in the area of Dixwell Avenue and Hillcrest Avenue. Police saw the vehicle and tried to contact the driver, who began driving erratically “in circles” on Dixwell Avenue before heading south, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan.

Dolan said a short time later, the same vehicle struck a pedestrian who was holding his young child as they crossed Dixwell Avenue near Newton Street.
The victim’s sister wrote in a GoFundMe campaign earlier this year that her brother suffered a broken wrist, stitches to his head and other injuries due to the crash. She also said that her nephew suffered two fractures to the skull. Both were recovering at home, according to an update on June 15.
