Man Charged with Impersonating a Police Officer: Hamden PD

Police say the man dressed in a police uniform and told a resident he was instructed to arrest him after following the man to his home.

HAMDEN, CT — A 23-year-old North Haven man is accused of impersonating a police officer in Hamden and telling a resident that he was instructed to arrest him after following the man to his home, according to police.

Hamden Police responded to a suspicious activity complaint on Oct. 20 in which a 24-year-old resident reported that he was traveling on Evergreen Avenue at about 1 a.m. when another vehicle began “tailgating and flashing high beams” at him, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said the operator of the vehicle followed the man to his residence on Cannon Street.

The operator of the vehicle quickly exited and identified himself as an off-duty police officer. After a brief verbal altercation, the “alleged cop” left the area, stating that he would return, according to Smith.

Shortly thereafter, the “alleged cop” returned to Cannon Street and continued to “bang” on the door of the residence, Smith said.

When the victim and a family member answered, they observed the individual dressed in a police uniform, which consisted of a police shirt, a patch with the name of a police agency affixed to the shirt, a badge, police radio and what appeared to be a firearm, according to Smith.

The “alleged cop” stated that he had spoken to his supervisor who instructed him to make an arrest on the Cannon Street resident, Smith said. Then, after another verbal altercation, the “alleged cop” left the residence.

Officer Andrew Lipford conducted an investigation and determined that Nicholas Ferrucci was the individual that was impersonating a police officer and a warrant was sought, according to Smith.

On Nov. 18, Detective Raymond Quinn and other members of the United States Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force, along with Hamden Police Detectives arrested Ferrucci at a Russo Drive residence, according to Smith.

Ferrucci, 23, of Leighton Court in North Haven, was charged with impersonating a police officer, carrying a dangerous weapon and second-degree breach of peace. Ferrucci, who was detained on a court-ordered $20,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Dec. 2.
