Man Charged In Shooting After ‘Intensive’ Investigation: Hamden Police
A man has been arrested in connection with a daytime shooting that sent one person to the hospital, according to police.
HAMDEN, CT — A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in Hamden in May, according to police.
Police responded around 2:30 p.m. on May 27 to a report of a gunshot victim who had been taken to St. Raphael’s Hospital for treatment, according to Acting Hamden Police Chief Timothy F. Wydra.
Wydra said the victim, a 34-year-old New Haven resident, told detectives from the Major Crimes Unit that he was walking toward the DJ Liquors parking lot at 16 Fairview Avenue when he was shot in the leg.

The victim said that a good Samaritan then gave him a ride to the hospital, according to Wydra. The Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and collected ballistic evidence.
Wydra said Detective Shawn Nutcher was assigned to the investigation and, after an “intensive two-month investigation,” obtained an arrest warrant for Dareen Dew on Thursday.

Dew, 24, of Hamden, was arrested and charged with first-assault and carrying a pistol without a permit. He was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond with a court date of Aug. 10.
Detectives also seized a Glock Model 19 pistol, according to Wydra.
“I would like to commend all the Officers who worked diligently on this investigation, specifically Sergeant Jomo Crawford, Detective Shawn Nutcher, and Detective Andrew Lipford,” Wydra wrote in a news release. “The investigation remains open and active.”
