Man Charged with Stabbing Nephew in the Back on Thanksgiving: Hamden Police
A man was seriously injured after he went to his uncle's home to collect money that was owed to him and was stabbed 3 times, police said.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man is accused of stabbing his nephew in the back three times this past Thanksgiving, according to police.
Hamden Police responded to a Warner Street residence on Nov. 24, 2016 on the report of an assault with a weapon, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said responding officers found a 28-year-old New Haven man with three stab wounds in his back. Hamden Fire Rescue rendered medical assistance at the scene. The victim was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries.

Investigation revealed that the victim went to his uncle’s home to collect money that was owed to him, according to Smith. His uncle, Mitchell Chapman, subsequently stabbed him three times in the back, Smith said.
Chapman fled on foot before police arrived on the scene.

Officer Stephen Phipps conducted the investigation, which led to the application of an arrest warrant for Chapman.
On Jan. 27, Hamden Police arrested Chapman at his residence on Warner Street in Hamden.
Chapman, 55, was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. In addition, Chapman was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant for first-degree failure to appear.
Chapman, who was detained on a court-ordered $35,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 30.
