Man Critically Injured In Shooting In Hamden: Police
Police received reports of a "rolling shootout" involving two vehicles on Friday afternoon, according to officials.
HAMDEN, CT — A man was critically injured in a shooting Friday afternoon in Hamden, according to police.
Police responded to the area of Mather Street and Dixwell Avenue on the report of a “rolling shootout” involving two vehicles, according to officials.
The dispatch center advised officers that the New Haven Police Department also received reports of a rolling shootout in their city and the two vehicles matched the description of the vehicles from the Hamden incident, according to police.

Police said dispatchers also advised that an uninvolved motorist reported that the aforementioned vehicles drove by him on Mather Street and that his vehicle was struck by bullets/projectiles.
Hamden police were later contacted by St. Raphael’s Hospital who said that a gunshot victim, a 21-year-old New Haven resident, recently arrived for treatment of a gunshot wound. This victim was later taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, according to police.

“This victim suffered from an apparent gunshot graze wound,” police wrote in a news release. “Victim stated that the incident started in New Haven and he ended up in Hamden where he believes he was struck by a bullet/projectile.”
The victim was listed in critical condition on Friday evening, but police said he was “conscious and alert” at the time of his interview.
One of the vehicles involved was reported stolen earlier Friday morning and later recovered in another town, according to police.
Police said the second vehicle involved was located, stopped, and unoccupied on Dixwell Avenue near Arch Street, after it was involved in a motor vehicle accident.
Detective Sergeant Jomo Crawford is investigating the incident along with several members of the Major Crimes Unit, according to police.
