Man, 32, Killed In Industrial Accident In Hamden: Police

The incident remains under investigation, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A 32-year-old man was killed in an industrial accident Thursday morning in Hamden, according to police.

Police responded around 7 a.m. to 2895 State Street for a report of an industrial accident, according to Lt. Robert Manfield.

WTNH News 8 reported that fire crews also responded to a report of a man trapped in a gravel machine in cardiac arrest.

The incident happened in an industrial yard at Modern Metals Corp. on State Street, according to WFSB 3.

WFSB 3 reported the victim was disentangled from the machine, and resuscitation efforts were made, but officials said he was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.

The victim's identity hasn't been released.

Manfield said preliminary investigation indicates that the man was tending to a large piece of commercial metal equipment when an accident occurred.

“The incident resulted in traumatic asphyxiation, ultimately leading to the victim’s death,” Manfield wrote in a news release. “The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Hamden Police Department, the Hamden Fire Department, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspectors. At this time, the preliminary investigation does not indicate any evidence of malice or criminal wrongdoing by any third party.

“OSHA will be conducting a parallel investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
