Man Enters Hamden Home While Resident Sleeps, Steals Car, Gets Caught Speeding on I-95: Police

The suspect, who police say entered the home through an unlocked kitchen window, was apprehended by Connecticut State Police: BREAKING

HAMDEN, CT — A man is accused of entering a Hamden residence while the homeowner was sleeping, stealing car keys and the vehicle before being caught speeding on I-95 and getting arrested early Saturday morning, according to police.

Hamden Police responded to a Burke Street residence at about 3:45 a.m. on Sept. 10 on the report of a burglary, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that Michael Crandell entered the residence through an unlocked kitchen window while the homeowner was asleep.

Once inside, Crandell stole car keys that were taken from a nearby table and subsequently stole the resident’s vehicle, according to Smith.

Shortly thereafter, Connecticut State Police observed Crandell operating at a high rate of speed on I-95 and he was taken into custody moments later, Smith said.

Crandell, 27, of Beaver Street in Hamden, was arrested on charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree larceny. He is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden.
