Man Falls From Overpass In Hamden Crash Involving Tow Truck

HAMDEN, CT — A man was hospitalized Friday night after falling from an overpass during a crash in Hamden involving two cars and a tow truck, according to state police.
Connecticut State Police said the crash happened shortly after 7:45 p.m. near Exit 60 on northbound Route 15.
According to police, two vehicles — a tow truck and a Nissan Altima — were parked on the right shoulder with emergency lights on when a Jeep Grand Cherokee driving in the right lane swerved toward the shoulder to avoid another vehicle slowing for traffic.

Police said the Jeep struck the Altima, which was parked behind the tow truck. The force of the crash pushed the Altima onto the tow truck's flatbed.
During the crash, police said the 23-year-old tow truck driver fell from the overpass edge, landing in a grassy area 25 feet below the roadway. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, police said.

The driver of the Jeep was cited for failure to maintain proper lane, police said. No other injuries were reported.
