Man Found Guilty Of Murder In Fatal Shooting In Hamden

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man has been convicted of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old man in Hamden in 2022, according to officials.

Aaron Dwight Moore, 38, was found guilty by a jury in New Haven Superior Court on Friday of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and criminal use of a firearm, New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle Jr. announced.

In a separate proceeding before the court, Doyle said Superior Court Judge Maureen M. Keegan found Moore guilty of criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a pistol or revolver, and carrying a pistol or revolver without a permit.

According to evidence introduced at trial, Moore and his co-defendant “planned and executed a coordinated ambush” on victim John Williams, 38, of Hamden, according to a news release from the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

Williams was shot multiple times while he was in his vehicle at his grandmother’s home in Hamden on Dec. 18, 2022. Williams died from his injuries shortly after the shooting.

The case was investigated by the Hamden Police Department and was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Gregory L. Borrelli and Assistant State’s Attorney Thomas J. Finnucan, who were assisted by Inspector Jeffrey Cortes.

Doyle thanked the Hamden Police Department, “especially Captain Jomo Crawford, Detective Gabe Garcia, and Sergeant Andrew Lipford, for their dedicated investigative efforts, as well to the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection’s Division of Scientific Services, Special Agent David Carney of the New Haven Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Insurance Crime Bureau and the New Haven Police Department for their significant contributions to this case,” according to the news release.

Moore is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 13 in New Haven Superior Court.
