Man Had Machete In Car At Quinnipiac University: Hamden Police
Police responded to Quinnipiac on the report of an unwanted person.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man was arrested after police say he was found to be in the possession of a machete near Quinnipiac University. At about 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 4, Hamden Police responded to Quinnipiac University, 305 Sherman Avenue, on the report of an unwanted person, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
A Quinnipiac University Public Safety Officer located two individuals, who were seated inside of a parked motor vehicle, near an access road, according to Smith. The Public Safety Officer located a machete inside of the vehicle. (To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
Smith said Hamden Police determined that the passenger in the vehicle, Simon Nieves Jr., was the owner of the machete. Nieves Jr. was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

Nieves Jr., 45, of Flower Drive in Hamden, was arrested on a charge of possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle. Nieves Jr., who was released after posting a $500 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Aug. 18.
