Man Shoplifts At Stop & Shop Twice In One Day: Hamden Police

Police say that while store security was reviewing surveillance video of the suspect shoplifting, he returned and tried to steal more items.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man is accused of shoplifting at Stop & Shop twice in one day, according to police. At about 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 15, Hamden Police responded to Stop & Shop, located at 2335 Dixwell Avenue, on the report of a larceny, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that a Loss Prevention Officer was reviewing store video surveillance footage and observed an individual, who was later identified as Bruce Steiniger, stealing $54.34 worth of merchandise earlier in the day.

“While viewing the store video surveillance footage, the Loss Prevention Officer observed Steiniger re-enter the store and attempt to steal more items,” Smith said in a press release. “The Loss Prevention Officer confronted Steiniger, who fled on foot, subsequently entering a motor vehicle.”

Steiniger was arrested at a local service station shortly thereafter, according to Smith.

Steiniger, 30, of Dixwell Avenue, was arrested on a charge of sixth-degree larceny. He was detained on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 22.
