Man Shot in Head on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden

Hamden police are investigating a late Friday night shooting on Dixwell Avenue that left the victim in critical condition.

Police responded to The Hamden Deli, 891 Dixwell Avenue, at about 11:30 p.m. on May 8 on the report of shots fired, involving a gunshot victim.

Prior to the arrival of Hamden police, the victim, Melvin Stanley, 23, was transported by a friend to Yale-New Haven Hospital with a bullet wound to the head. Police said he was listed in critical condition.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that Stanley was standing in the parking lot when the gunshot was fired.
